Olympic Museum

Opened on the first day of the 1984 Games, this museum is located in a magnificent fin-de-siècle villa. Though destroyed in 1992 during the Siege of Sarajevo, it was beautifully restored and reopened in 2020. We stop here to explore the achievements of the Sarajevo Winter Olympics through a unique collection of sports memorabilia and art.

Koševo Olympic Stadium & Zetra Olympic Hall

The massive Koševo Stadium hosted 45,000 spectators for the 1984 Opening Ceremony. Nearby, the Zetra Olympic Hall was constructed as a brand-new indoor ice rink with a 12,000-seat capacity. We take the YUGO for a tour around the stadium and stop to admire the striking modernist structure of the Zetra Olympic Hall.

Hotel Holiday Inn

This yellow, cube-shaped landmark is the most iconic building from the Sarajevo Olympics. Designed by architect Ivan Štraus, it served as a centerpiece for the city’s modern image. During the games, it was reserved exclusively for international officials and media. We’ll enter the lobby to see references to the history of this location long before 1984.

Mojmilo Olympic Village

Mojmilo was the primary Olympic Village, featuring roughly 600 apartments for the athletes. Architect Milan Medić designed connected rows of concrete housing towers centered around a square with shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. We take a walk here to explore the area and find original Olympic signs and monuments still standing in the neighborhood.

Igman Ski Jump Site

After a 25km scenic drive, we reach the dramatic and abandoned Olympic Ski Jumps on Mount Igman. Designed by the Slovene brothers Gorišek—both architects and accomplished ski jumpers—this venue remains an impressive concrete landmark. We stop here to enjoy the views over the alpine fields of Malo Polje and, if you’re a daredevil, you can climb to the top.

Hotel Igman

This geometric, brutalist structure was built for athletes to acclimate at high altitudes. The massive complex featured 512 beds and several restaurants. Architect Ahmed Džuvić used pine and traditional woodworking to give the building a lodge-style warmth. We visit the abandoned remains of the hotel, which was ruined during the war in the 1990s.

Trebević Bobsled Track

The 1984 bobsled track was designed to be both a world-class competitive venue and an engaging space for spectators. Now reclaimed by nature and local artists, the track remains a hauntingly beautiful site. We stop here so you can walk through the concrete curves and experience the scale of the Olympic forest.
